The squirrel climbed the large barrel that was the old oak's trunk and sprawled out
on its first major limb. He curled his spindly tail and viewed my interest warily so
I remained a safe distance. Probably a youngster. Squirrels are plentiful but territorial.
Age doesn't work in your favor when past your prime. Once chased from your home
it's all downhill with no safe harbor for the infirm. Only the local hawk or passing car
can remedy one's distress. Mother Nature is benign only to those who earn it.
