Endorsed by a cartoon character the Plymouth Road Runner is the way to make it happen if you want a muscle car but your paycheck says parking lot attendant.  Your piece of the land of opportunity growls under the hood.  It's toxic orange, just like dynamite.  Deal with it.

It's basic.  You can practically hear the pins flying at the bowling alley looking at it.  It comes with something to sit on and rubber floor mats that don't even pretend to look snuggle soft.  The reason it's yours is that its got 335 horse power, and that's a low ball figure.  It's been juiced with special cylinder heads, and the intake and exhaust manifold and camshaft are from the Chrysler 440-cid V-8.  Four speed manual is standard and a nice tight suspension keeps you upright.

Every town big enough to earn a dot on the map had a boulevard for hanging out Friday nights.  It was Facebook in 3D.  Swing into a parking lot where people gather, stop and just let the engine idle.  Later on you'll vaporize the carbon deposits on some headlamp straightaway out in the lone dark beyond.

Warner Bros. got fifty grand for rights to the cartoon bird.  The horn went beep beep!  Were you expecting honk?  The car definitely had get up and go.  It's stopping the car with standard drum brakes that could be a problem.  Chances are your wish list didn't include front disc brakes.

It was a turbulent year with assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy, the Tet Offensive in Vietnam and numerous protest marches and a few riots.  On the other hand, McDonald's introduced the Big Mac for forty-nine cents, Apollo 8 orbited the moon, the 747 made its maiden flight and 60 Minutes aired for the first time.

Chrysler took their bottom line Belvedere and put a big kick under the hood, four on the floor and some engineering tricks like a large front suspension torsion bar for improved handling.  Marketing added a cartoon character for a logo and Accounting kept it priced right for thin wallets.  This was Detroit still on their game.
